Signposts’ allyship with the refugee and the LGBTQ+ communities

As a charity we wish to reaffirm the following position considering comments made at this week’s Conservative Party conference and across other media outlets:

Luton has actively sought to provide sanctuary for those fleeing conflict, disaster, discrimination, and wars from across the world. As a charity Signposts will continue to do all it can individually and as a partner of the Luton Homeless Partnership to support refugees to find safety and support.

With increased numbers of refugees relying on charities and third sector organisations for support, guidance, help and to advocate on their behalf, we are deeply worried by the words spoken at this week’s conference.

Also, with over 25% of trans and non-binary individuals having experienced homelessness at some point in their journey, Signposts wishes to state that as a homeless charity we accept everyone’s lifestyle choices.

77% of LGBTQ+ young people gave 'family rejection, abuse or being asked to leave home' as a cause of their homelessness.

We stand as an LGBTQ+ ally and welcome all within the trans and non-binary community who need our support at this and any other time.

Signposts is committed to creating inclusive housing support.
